On Wednesday (23-11), the UGM Department of History organized an event entitled Environmental History Conference: Dialogue of Academics and Movements in Shared Environmental History. The event lasted for 2 days in the multimedia room of Margono Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM. The conference was organized to build an environmental history education base that is relevant to the needs of the environmental movement. This is done by creating a deep understanding of the forms of research and knowledge needed by the movement.

Not only academics, this event also invited several speakers from various organizations, including FIAN Indonesia, Greenpeace Indonesia, Sajogjo Institute, and WALHI. With the diversity of the speakers’ backgrounds, it is hoped that there will be a dialogue between academics and movement activists so that research and development are relevant.

There are various focuses of discussion, such as historical mapping of the environment; religion and the environment; politics, law, and the environment; economics and the environment; and various other approaches. These discussions try to contextualize the understanding of environmental history with Indonesia. This event is open to the public with a limited quota.
