Graduate

The Master's Program in History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University was established in 1980, as part of the Doctoral Education Program of Universitas Gadjah Mada. From 1983 to 1991, this program was part of the UGM Graduate Faculty. Starting in 1991, this program became a part of the UGM Graduate Program and based on Decree No. 580/Dikti/Kep/1993 dated September 29, 1993, was officially designated as the History Study Program and UGM Graduate Program. In 2007, the program was transferred to the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM. In 2015, an institutional reorganization was carried out at UGM in the form of abolishing Departments and establishing Departments and institutional functions at the Study Program, Department, Faculty, and University levels. From the results of this reorganization, the Master's Degree Program in History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM is under the Department of History.

Curriculum

The lecture structure of the Graduate History Program is structured according to the vision and mission to achieve the objectives of the study program, especially those related to the development of History and the needs of students. Each course is taught by lecturers who are experts in their fields. Courses are divided into two, namely compulsory courses and elective courses. Each student is required to complete a minimum of 44 credits and a maximum of 50 credits, consisting of theory and thesis, to complete Graduate education in the History Studies Program.

There are 9 compulsory courses consisting of 28 credits and 7 elective courses with a minimum of 27 credits. The number of credits in each course is different, some are 3 credits and some are 4 credits. Especially for Thesis weighing 8 credits. Compulsory courses are divided into two, one that is directly related to historical sciences such as historiography, theory and methodology, archival research, source language, cultural theory and social theory, and one that includes historical factual substance such as Second, courses originating from other disciplines are very important and relevant for broadening perspectives and conceptual theoretical foundations.

Since the first semester, every student can take elective courses according to their interests or interests to write a thesis, including courses offered by other study programs both within and outside the UGM Faculty of Cultural Sciences. The minimum number of elective courses taken is three courses or 9 credits. Elective courses can also be taken from other study programs, in the faculty of cultural sciences such as Anthropology, Archeology as well as Literature and Linguistics.

Enrolling in the Graduate Program in History

In addition to the requirements listed on the registration page, the Graduate Program in History UGM also requires additional requirements in the form of examples of historical academic writings or a summary of the thesis that has been done for applicants who are majoring in history in their undergraduate program.
