This lecture will analyze the evolution of the Non-Aligned Movement within the context of the Global Cold War, following historical developments from the very beginnings in the late 1940s, when the group of non-aligned countries was only emerging and establishing global networks, until the very last Cold War era NAM summit held in Belgrade in 1989. This lecture will follow ups and downs in this turbulent history which made the NAM the third force of the Cold War, evolving from an intormal group of nations into a fully fledged international organization, one poised at putting small and medium powers into the very center of international politics as agents of reform of the global system to more suit the interests of players outside the two superpowers and their blocs.
